Halloween treats tend to harm and destroy our smiles, and with Halloween behind us and candy all around the house, it’s important to help your child maintain a strong and healthy smile. To help you do so, we recommend trying one or more of the following candy plans:

Divvy up the candy
If you hide your child’s candy and only give them small amounts at a time, your child will be less likely to develop tooth decay. This tactic will even out the sugar consumption throughout time and it will give your child’s smile a better chance at surviving.

Make a game out of it
Use your child’s candy as a reward for winning a family game. This could be fun! After your child has won a board game or card game, give them a piece of candy. The more they win, the more candy they can have. You can also try this with household chores. The more chores your child completes, the more candy they can have.

Let your child play tricks on you
Not many kids have the chance to participate in the “trick” part of trick-or-treating, so why not have them play tricks on you to earn their candy? This could be fun for you and the child. Let’s see how creative they can get!

Barter the candy
Sometimes it’s better to have your child trade their candy for a new toy or activity they are interested in. That way you both get what you want: Your child will get their favorite toy or activity and you will have a child who is free from tooth decay!

Trade the candy for money
Children love filling their piggy banks with money, so why not have them trade their candy for more pennies and bills? This could be a great way to prevent tooth decay and help your child save up for a new toy they want.

These candy plans will help protect your child’s smile from tooth decay and additional dental problems. They give you ways to regulate the amount of candy consumed as well as help you protect your child’s smile.
