Tip #1: Rinse, rinse, rinse
Most women, who have been pregnant, will probably tell you morning sickness is one of the worst aspects of pregnancy. If you are experiencing morning sickness be sure to rinse your mouth out immediately after vomiting with a solution containing 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 8 ounces of water. This can help remove any food particles or gastric acid in your mouth, preventing any erosion of decay.
Tip #2: Brush and floss daily
It’s no surprise that brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily can help promote healthy teeth and gums. Be sure to brush your teeth with ADA-approved fluoride toothpaste.
Tip #3: Visit the dentist
Visit your dentist on a regular basis for professional cleanings and check-ups. You should visit your dentist before pregnancy, during your second trimester and semi-annually after your baby has been born.
Tip #4: Eat a healthy diet
Eating a balanced isn’t only helpful to the growth of your baby, but also can be beneficial to your teeth. Some of these foods include: apples, pears, carrots, leafy greens, nuts, water, chicken, and fish.
Tip #5: Avoid snacking
Snacking, while enjoyable, can trap food and bacteria in your teeth that are often times are hard to remove with your toothbrush. Try and avoid snacking in-between meals. If you do snack, be sure to brush your teeth immediately afterwards.
